My old KVM having failed after years of use I needed an upgrade. It turns out most of the KVMs on sale on Amazon don’t have EDID emulation meaning that when you change between computers the computer changes from things the monitor has been disconnected and responds accordingly, i.e. if you’re using a laptop it squeezes all the windows from your 4K monitor onto the small laptop screen and when you change back they’ll but wherever the laptop thinks most appropriate. Close to useless for regular switching. On this switch it functions perfectly all the windows get left where they were and you can switch back and forth without issue, for once the hockey switching works properly too.If you’re looking for a 4K KVM that actually emulates the connected screen properly this is the one, the other two KVMs I tried (costing £100 and £120 respectively didn’t so this), in one case the support even told me that was the intended operation. Beware of cheap alternatives that simply won’t function as a proper KVM.
